High quality orchestral music for everyone
PROJECT 23 is a community project initiated by Brabant Chamber Orchestra.
This project is part of BCO’s core mission: making high-quality orchestral music accessible to everyone. To lower barriers—whether financial or cultural—we created PROJECT 23, in collaboration with local cultural organizer Mariejon Punt.
At the heart of BCO’s mission is a simple goal: high-quality orchestral music for everyone. Many people face barriers—financial or cultural—that prevent them from accessing classical music. We believe everyone deserves to experience this art form. That belief is central to all of our productions, and it drives specific initiatives like PROJECT 23.
The Netherlands has a strong tradition of amateur music-making. Many of these musicians are deeply passionate and dream of performing at a higher artistic level—but their own groups often lack the means to realize this. PROJECT 23 answers that need by inviting motivated amateur singers and musicians to join BCO in a fully supported, professional-level production.
Although the choir is not a formal foundation or association, it is a consistent and experienced group that has sung together for years. BCO takes full responsibility for the project—artistically, logistically, and financially.
How we support the choir:
Production: BCO manages all aspects to ensure a professional result.
Funding & Marketing: We help secure funding and promote the project.
Artistic Development: Our artistic director co-develops the concept with the choir.
Rehearsals: Led by our conductor, rehearsals are intensive and high-level, with a focus on musical understanding, ensemble work, and personal growth.
Each edition of PROJECT 23 combines famous masterworks for choir and orchestra with accessible contemporary music—designed to attract a broad group of singers and engage new audiences. The goal is to create a personal, meaningful connection to music that reflects today’s world.
Last year’s program:
Selections from Die Schöpfung – Joseph Haydn
Finale from Symphony No. 6 (Pathétique) – P.I. Tchaikovsky
Hargez (Never) – Amin Amel Ebrahimi
The Awakening – Joseph Martin
This project brings together local residents who share a passion for choral and classical music. It offers a welcoming space to connect through the joy of making music—culminating in a public concert where participants present the results of their shared journey.
