Today's story for today's audience
Once upon a time is a format designed to help the audience connect to the master pieces of classical music more easily through storytelling and sometimes with a pinch of visuals & light.
This format aims to redefine classical music through creating/expressing context for the masterpieces of classical music to help the audience to understand them better.
Bellow you can read about an earlier edition.
‘’The production of A Room with a View is an exploration of oneself and their placement in the society’’
This production addresses how we place ourselves as individual in respect to the environment that we are placed in. How do we treat traditions and what traditions means to each of us? Shall I go along, or shall I change it?
We will do all this through an artistic reflection combining two master pieces of late 19th and early 20th century. Brahms’s 2nd symphony and Foster’s Novel ‘A Room with a View’. We will be exploring the thematic correlation between these works since they offer a similar yet very special context to contemplate on our place in the society around us.
“Lucy was too deeply hurt to be genuinely angry. Tradition—her tradition, Thurston’s tradition, the tradition of the whole world—was coming between her and her lover. It was coming between her and all the people who were too happy or too busy to love. It reminded her that she was a prisoner.”
Although both masterpieces share the serene and pastoral context where the themes unfold the relationship between the works goes beyond just a pastoral environment. The main connection is the concerns that both authors shared while working on their pieces and through their work. You can see this in the exceptional time Brahms had to take from the start of his 1st symphony (1860) to the compilation of his 2nd (1877). More than 15 years! Which was largely due to his position as a composer in the music world and his search for his personal voice in the symphonic context.
The name of a book suggests a very important perspective that we will be taking in our search, what is the role of a window in our definition of who we are? Do we get to recognize ourselves through looking outside? Or should we leave all the beauty outside the room and start looking inside the room to find who we really are? Maybe both. We don’t intend to answer such question, we’ll only ask them.

This interdisciplinary performance bring music and storytelling together. Inspired by the book and the music of Brahms we will be developing a new story that is more tangible and applicable to the contemporary audience. This new scenario will be embodied in the performance and the music through a captivating storytelling that allows us to deepen the understanding of the audience from the music as well as the book. This will help us connect on a new level and ensures a more profound engagement for our audience.
